Art In City Hall (of Philadelphia) and the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University   will co-sponsor an exhibit of artworks that responds to the natural and environmental sciences for Library of Life, celebrating the Academy’s 200th anniversary.

Founded in 1812, the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University is America’s oldest natural history museum and a world leader in biodiversity and environmental research. For 200 years, the Academy has carried out its mission to encourage and cultivate the sciences, exploring the remarkable diversity of our natural world and sharing these discoveries with the public through innovative exhibits, publications, and educational programming.

In celebration of the Academy’s Bicentennial, this exhibition invites artists to respond to the natural and environmental sciences. The Academy holds more than 18 million specimens – library of life on earth – in its collections. As the institution moves into its third century, these growing collections provide scientists with information on the ways in which human behavior has affected the environment.

This exhibition will take place from March 11 – May 24, 2013, with a reception: March 14, 5-7 pm.
